ALL India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) has demanded from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that the Bihar government should immediately take action on the report submitted by CBI in the Supreme Court with regard to shelter homes in Bihar.

The CBI report on sexual harassment in Bihar shelter homes has found many District Collectors, officials and NGO operators guilty. AIPWA has pointed out that it was after the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home episode came to light and pressure was brought on the government through agitations that the CBI enquiry was started. Currently, Brajesh Thakur is in jail and the CBI has recommended action against officials in 13 other shelter homes on charges of sexual harassment against women and children.

AIPWA National General Secretary Meena Tiwari, State President Saroj Chaube and Secretary Shashi Yadav have said that shelter homes cannot change into oppression homes on such a large scale without political protection. If the Chief Minister possesses even a shred of moral courage, he should acknowledge his responsibility. AIPWA General Secretary Meena Tiwari demanded that the government should make public the names of the officials and NGO operators indicted by the CBI in their report, and also tell the people of Bihar what action they are taking against the people named in the report.
