It is with deep grief that we report the passing of Comrade Govind Chakravarti on 26 August 2020. He had come to India with his widowed mother as a migrant from Bangladesh after the death of his father Ravindra Chakravarti. His mother (Late) Smt. Pratibha Chakravarti worked as a domestic help in many houses and he also worked in different small factories in Kanpur. His mother was a spirited and loving soul who showered affection on all comrades who visited their home. Comrade Govind came into contact with the Party in 1981 and emerged as a whole-timer under the leadership of Comrade Deepak Bose. Eventually he became the CPIML Kanpur District in-charge and played an important role in developing the Party in Kanpur. However, after his mother's death he became less active due to financial crisis. For the past one year he had once again resumed an active role in socio-political activities and participated regularly in Party programs. But suddenly on 24 August he suffered a paralytic attack. He received treatment at Hallet Hospital but the attack was very severe. He breathed his last on 26 August after suffering severe brain hemorrhage. He was 57 years old.

His loss is irreparable and CPIML stands with his family in this hour of grief.

Red Salute to Comrade Govind!
