conference on the Right to Employment

A conference on the Right to Employment was held on 22 November 2018 at the Allahabad University Chhatra Sangh Bhawan under the aegis of Rozgar Maange India. The programme started with the garlanding of Chandrashekhar Azad’s statue at the Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Park by students after which a rally was held from the Park to the Chhatra Sangh Bhawan.

Addressing the conference, Rozgar Maange India Convner and AISA National President Sucheta De said that only a few months are remaining for the completion of the present Central government’s term. The Modi government has thrown all demands for generation of employment to the winds and its Ministers are now openly engaged in the divisive tactics of communal polarization. Attempts are being made to communalize the people in the name of ‘Mandir’ and by changing the names of cities. PhD holders are being advised to sell paan and pakodas for a livelihood. Young people struggling to save their livelihoods are being brutally lathi charged. Today, when the government is turning away from accountability and attempting to divert the people through polarization, it has become our responsibility, as the youth of the country, to demand answers from the government to basic issues. Young people spending their lives in the search for employment and livelihood must ask this government for an account of recruitments and appointments in these past 5 years. She also said Employment for Youth needs to be made one of the main issues in the coming Elections.

Manoj Kumar Singh, General Secretary of Jan Sanskriti Manch addressed the convention and said that Prime Minister Modi has made ridiculous statements in Parliament in connection with employment, saying that there have been auto rickshaw and lorry sales in the last 4 years; therefore it means that youth have got employment. Young people have got loans of Rs 35,000-40,000 through the Mudra Scheme, which is far from sufficient for decent employment or livelihood. Several leaders of employment related agitations across India also participated in the conference.
