HIRAWAL (Jan Sanskriti Manch) organized the 3rd Gorakh Pandey memorial event on 29 January 2019 at the Premchand Rangshala campus in Patna. Artistes from Hirawal and Naad presented songs composed by Gorakh Pandey and 27 poets read their compositions. The theme for the event was Gorakh’s line ‘Kavita Yug ki Nabz Dharo’ (Poetry, feel the pulse of the times). Hirawal Secretary Santosh Jha said that it is our endeavor to provide a forum for new creativity through this event. The program was conducted by poet Rajesh Kamal.

The program began with Samreen Shabbir’s poem ‘Yaadein’, Utkarsh’s ‘Samay se Vartalaap’, Pooja Kaushik’s poem ‘Samay’, Sovit Shriman’s poem ‘Deh ka Kaudi Daam’, Preeti Prabha’s ‘Tumhe Dar Lagta Hai’, and two poems by Asia Naqvi, one on women’s freedom and the other against fascist killings.

Satyam Kumar Jha poignantly brought out the never-ending wait for justice in his ‘Bathani Tola’. Shashank Mukut Shekhar’s poems expressed the conflict between labour, markets, nature, and the search for peace. Natasha’s poem ‘Vidhwans aur Srijan’ explored the relationship between war and creativity. Sudhakar Ravi’s poem was a scathing attack on the use of religion as a business. Anchit and Sanjay Kumar Kundan recited their compositions ‘Kavitayug’ and ‘Cat Walk’ respectively.

Creative compositions were presented by Vikrant (‘Adhakpari’), Arpan Kumar (‘Shikari’ and ‘Baghnakha’), Upanshu (‘Gandhi Maidan ki Ek Yaad’ and ‘Atmabodh ke Baad Vikas ke Liye’), Rohit Thakur (‘Kavita’ and Yaadon ko Baandha ja Sakta Hai’), Sudhir Suman (‘Prem ke Liye’ and ‘Basanti Bayar ki Tarah’), Ranji Verma (‘Aise hi Nahi Bana yeh Hindustan’), Shridhar Karunanidhi (‘Tis Janvari’ and ‘Apne Apne Hindlon Mein’), Asmurari Nandan Mishra (‘Ladkiyan Pyar kar Rahi Hain’ and ‘Baans’), Neha Narayan (‘Meri Kalam’), and Sagar (‘Sann 2080’). Two untitled poems by Krishna Sammidh, a political satire by Raghunath Mukhiya, and Rakesh Ranjan’s poems including ‘Loot Maar kyon Ho Yaar’ were much appreciated by the audience.

Mohd Jani, Asif and Irfan of the ‘Naad’ group presented Gorakh Pandey’s poems ‘Hamare Vatan ki Nai Zindagi Ho’ and ‘Samay ka Pahiya’. Rajan Kumar sang Gorakh’s ghazal ‘Rafta Rata Nazarbandi ka Jadu Hattha Jae’Santosh Jha and Suman Kumar of Hirawal sang Dinesh Kumar Shukla’s song composed in memory of Gorakh Pandey ‘Jaag Mere Mann Machhandar’.

JASAM State Com. Secretary Sudhir Suman proposed the vote of thanks and said that Gorakh’s poems are now more relevant than ever before. His poems accompany every kind of democratic struggle. ‘Wey Darte Hain’ has become the representative song of today’s times. Gorakh left us 30 years ago but he is still the beloved poet of those fighting for freedom and equality and dreaming of a better society.

Parivesh and JASAM organized the Gorakh Memorial Lecture and poetry reading at Allahabad. Closer to Gorakh’s birthplace in Kushinagar, symposiums, poetry readings, and plays were organized at the 9th Gorakh Memorial event. ‘Chorus’ organized a program of Gorakh’s compositions and wpmen poets’ compositions at Kalidas Rangalay in Patna on the eve of Gorakh Memorial Day.
