PERIYAKOTTAI village of Pudukottai district in Tamilnadu witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of rural workers who assembled there to launch a state wide campaign of agricultural and rural workers to press for livelihood issues and to strengthen the fight against fascist forces at every level. This campaign was called by AIARLA in the form of a massive mass contact programme against communal fascist and regressive forces and ideas. As an opening event a mass meeting was held in Periyakottai on 9 August, the first day of the campaign. The campaign will conclude on 7 November in a state level rally in Chennai. The rural workers took pledge to mobilise poor from every village to resist the fascist onslaught of the Sangh-BJP.

AIARLA TN president Balasundaram addressed the event and reminded that behind the success of Quit India Movement was the toiling peasantry and workers’ might. Today again the country is fighting against the fascist advance of Modi-Shah combine. He also criticised the AIADMK Govt in Tamilnadu for supporting a government in the centre which is destroying every notion and structure of federalism and condemned the TN Gov for supporting BJP’s move of abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir.
