RENOWNED actor Irrfan Khan passed away on 29 April 2020 at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. 54 year old Irrfan Khan’s health deteriorated suddenly on the evening of 28 April and he was admitted to the hospital. Irrfan Khan, who made his own distinguishing mark with his compelling performances, came to know in 2018 that he was suffering from neuro-endocrinal tumor, a rare disease for which he underwent treatment in London for about a year. On his return, he recently completed the shooting for the film ‘Angrezi Medium’. This was a sequel to an earlier film of his, ‘Hindi Medium’ for which he had received the Filmfare Best Actor award.

Reports had come of his deteriorating health during the shooting of ‘Angrezi Medium’. His mother Saeeda Begum had passed away a few days ago in Rajasthan, and due to the Lockdown he was unable to see her for one last time or attend her last rites. Irrfan Khan leaves behind his wife and two children.

Irrfan Khan’s film and television career spans a period of 30 years. He acted in more than 50 films, outstanding among which are ‘Salaam Bombay’ (1988), ‘Drishti’ (1990), ‘Ek Doctor Ki Maut’ (1990), ‘Haasil’ (2003), ‘Maqbool’ (2004), ‘The Namesake’ (2006), ‘Life in a Metro’ (2007), ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008), ‘Pan Singh Tomar’ (2011), ‘The Lunchbox’ (2013), ‘Piku’ (2015), ‘Talwar’ (2015), and ‘Hindi Medium’ (2016).

His role as the hero in ‘Pan Singh Tomar’ was greatly appreciated by viewers. He also received the National Film Award for Best Actor for this film.

He also worked in many Hollywood films, prominent among which are ‘The Amazing Spider Man’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Inferno’, ‘Puzzle’ and ‘Jurassic World’.

Irrfan Khan worked in many TV serials including Chanakya and Bharat Ek Khoj. He played the role of Lenin in ‘Lal Ghas par Neeley Ghodey’ telecast by Doordarshan. This was a translation of famous Russian play by Mikhail Shatrov. He played the unforgettable role of Maqdoom Mohiuddin in Ali Sardar Jaffrey’s ‘Kahkashan’. He was honored with the Padmashri Award in 2011.
