LEFT parties in Bihar organized a protest day on the day Amit Shah addressed a virtual rally to open the BJP’s election campaign in Bihar after putting farmers, workers, poor and all sections of society in deep crisis and completely destroying the country’s economy.
Leaders from Left parties held a dharna in front of the Janshakti campus in Patna. They included CPIML State Secretary Kunal, PB member Dhirendra Jha, State Committee member Ranvijay Kumar, CPM leaders Arun Kumar Mishra, Rampari Devi, Manoj Chandravanshi, CPI leaders Vijay Narayan Mishra, Ravindra Nath Rai, Ram Lala Singh and others. Also participating in the dharna were AIPWA leaders Shashi Yadav and Saroj Chaube, AICCTU leader RN Thakur, Patna District Secretary Jitendra Kumar, and many others.

Comrade Kunal said that it is extremely condemnable that instead of alleviating the problems of the common people the BJP-JDU are busy with election preparations when the entire country is reeling under a grave crisis caused by the Modi government’s unplanned and directionless Lockdown and the people are battling unemployment, starvation, disease and many other problems.

Government’s Hatred Towards Migrants Exposed

The hate-filled attitude of the government towards migrant workers is evident by the fact that the police department issued an official letter warning all District Collectors that the workers who have come back from outside can cause disorder and crimes. The government had to withdraw this letter under pressure from the Opposition but it shows their mindset.

Dhirendra Jha said that the priority of the government should be to create employment, but instead they are busy with election campaigns. The people have been left to the mercies of Corona and starvation. At several places, JCB machines are being used for work instead of giving work to workers. He reiterated the Left parties’ demand of 200 days’ work and Rs 500 minimum wages in MNREGA; guarantee of jobs for workers who have returned; Rs 7500 monthly subsistence allowance for 6 months for families outside the income tax ambit. Other Left leaders also demanded proper arrangements at quarantine centers; loan waivers for farmers and guarantee of crop procurement; loan waivers for Self Help Groups; 10 kg rations for all families; Rs 20 lakhs as compensation for families of those who died due to Lockdown-induced reasons or at quarantine centers.

Dharnas were also held at Chitkohara and Digha in Patna, Koilvar, Isadhi Bazaar, Udvantnagar, Ara City, Gadhani, Tarari, Sahr and other centers in Bhojpur, Siwan, Darbhanga, Gaya, Arwal, Katihar, Gopalganj, Nalanda and other Districts.

Left leaders at the protests said that BJP-JDU are dreaming of election victory after pushing the country into the deepest distress and crisis, but the people, including migrant workers, dalits, poor, students, youth, farmers, traders, SHGs, Anganwadi, ASHA and other scheme workers and the entire working class would give a fitting reply to settle accounts with BJP-JDU.

In view of the decision taken earlier in a Left parties’ meeting in Delhi, the above demands were made through these protests. The working class of India has endured relentless distress. The people will not forget this and will never forgive the Modi government for this.

The leaders said that Amit Shah’s virtual rally on 7 June is like rubbing salt into the wounds of the people and therefore the day is observed as Betrayal and Condemnation Day and organised physical protests in protest against the virtual rally, resounding with slogans for food, employment and guarantee of safety against Corona.

Lowest Covid Testing Rate in Bihar Condemned

The double-engine Delhi-Patna government has proved to be an utter failure and they have tainted the image and identity of Bihar. The Corona testing rate in Bihar is the lowest and returning migrant workers are being treated like animals. The entire government is in the clutches of a corrupt bureaucracy. The government has chosen to fight Corona by adopting the policy of pushing aside all the Opposition parties as well as social organizations and as a result the spread of Corona in the State is rapidly reaching a grave situation.
