Protest against Rampant Corruption in Lucknow Hospital

AIPWA and RYA organized a protest march in Lucknow against the rampant corruption in the Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital (BKT) situated on Sitapur Road in Lucknow Rural and to demand a high level enquiry into the murder of the dalit in the Mall area. The march started from Parivartan Chowk and proceeded to Swasthya Bhavan, led by Kamla Gautam and Neeraj. The demands of the protest were: probe the corruption in RS Mishra Hospital; dismiss the corrupt Medical Superintendent; arrange better medical facilities in the hospital; and a high level enquiry into the murder of a dalit youth Shivam in Raniamau.

AIPWA and RYA leaders addressing the protest said that this hospital was supposed to be a blessing to the people of BKT but for the past 6 or 7 years certain officials have turned the hospital into hell. Their corruption and abusive behavior have made things miserable for doctors as well as patients. Women doctors, nurses and other workers are being abused and patients are being admitted in an arbitrary way. Patients are referred to favoured hospitals, outside medicines are stocked in violation of government rules, ultra-sound test dates are deliberately given so long in time that patients are forced to go elsewhere. Therefore it is necessary to take action.

The protest was attended by a large number of women including Babli Rawat, Himanshi Choudhury, Manju Gautam, Suman Sengar, Ram Devi, Savitri Rawat, Kamla Rawat, Rekha Yadav, Sushila Sharma and Ramkali Rawat.
