More Liquor Deaths in Bihar

CPIML held a demonstration in Siwan on 24 January demanding action against the local police incharge for allegedly conniving with the illicit liquor smugglers. Six people have died in another illicit liquor incident after Saran in Naviganj block and another half a dozen are struggling for life in hospital.

The poisonous liquor deaths continue in Bihar in spite of persistent demand of taking action against the liquor mafia which mostly run with the help of corrupt police administration in nexus with politicians, mostly rightwing as has been in many earlier incidents.

CPIML Bihar Secretary Kunal has expressed serious concern over mass deaths caused by liquor mafia. He said that the prohibition in the state has failed because of administrative protection being given to the mafia. So far hundreds have lost their lives and in the name of prohibition. Only poor people are being victimised as nearly one lakh extremely poor and marginalised people have been languishing in jails while the actual criminals are roaming free.

Party leader and ex-MLA Amarnath Yadav has demanded compensation to the families of victims of Naviganj deaths and immediate arrest of the mafia criminals along with stern action against the police.
